People say on Akron OH

Is like: It's the stepchild of Cleveland to the North and Columbus to the South; not as large as either, but it has the same neighborhoods and attractions - on a much smaller scale. We have a AAA ball team, the Akron Arrows and Canal Park a miniature of Progressive Field in Cleveland, a nice park, just a smaller version. We have our own Little Italy known as North Hill - and occasionally, though not PC, as "Wop Hill". We were once the Rubber Capital of the World until the Japanese and others started buying up rubber companies and moving their headquarters. Goodyear still remains in Akron. But we still have Firestone Park on the south side of town and the famous Firestone PGA Golf Tournament. We still go up and down Seiberling Street. Goodrich (where I used to work)was purchased by Michelin Tire (French company) and Firestone was purchased by Bridgestone. Michelin was headquartered in Charlotte NC and Bridgestone set up a headquarters in Nashville TN, virtually shutting down its entire operation in south Akron. Goodrich left empty manufacturing building up and down the south side of Main St. Eventually both were completely gone from Akron. We have a couple of "bad areas" of town but not as large or as "bad" as Cleveland's. There are murders in Akron now and again, but they are not as frequent or as numerous as Cleveland's. We have some truly wonderful upscale restaurants in upscale areas, but the areas aren't as large and the restaurants not as numerous as Cleveland's. But, the bottom line if I may quote one of our most famous, Lebron James: "Too many people confuse Akron and Cleveland as being one and the same. They are not. My hometown is Akron and my closest friends and family live there - not in Cleveland." And that about says it.
